Where to find the 5 best views of Rome

Known as the city built on seven hills, Rome really is a sight to behold from every angle. With stunning views filled with ancient architecture, domes, bell towers, and canals, you won’t want to miss the best views the city has to offer. But where should you set up shop to take your Insta-worthy snaps? Here’s a rundown of our 5 best views of Rome.

1. The Orange Garden

On Aventine Hill Upon climbing the Aventine Hill - one of the seven original hills in Rome - you’ll find yourself in the beautiful Giardino deli Aranci, also known as the Orange Gardens. The park offers panoramic views of the Tiber River and the west of Rome’s Historical centre. Located next door is the famous Keyhole of the Knights in Malta - giving you a perfectly-framed view of St. Peter’s Basilica. Lie under one of the many orange trees and while the afternoon away with a romantic picnic, or a good book.

2. Pincio Hill

In Rome’s most famous park, Villa Borghese, lies a terrace that holds one of the most gorgeous views of the city. Especially at sunset. The uphill walk will give you a chance to work off your pasta-filled lunch, but will be well worth it, as it overlooks the Piazza del Popolo, the charming Prati district and of course, the Basilica of St Peter in the Vatican.

3. Ponte Umberto

Located on the River Tiber, the Ponte Umberto bridge provides the perfect postcard backdrop of Rome. With yet another view of the St Peter’s Basilica, this spot is as picturesque as it can get. Stroll across the bridge and visit the Mausoleum of Hadrian, better known as Castel Sant’Angelo, which is one of the most unique structures of Rome.

4. The Roman Forum

You can’t visit Rome without getting a birds-eye shot of the iconic Roman Forum. Located in the heart of Rome, the forum is a collection of the city’s most ancient ruins. This spot gets extremely busy, so enjoy the view at sunrise to avoid the crowds ruining your photo-ops.

5. The Dome of St Peter’s Basilica

If visiting the St Peter’s Basilica is on your to-do list in Rome (if not, you might want to reconsider), don’t forget to head up to the Dome of the cathedral. The climb is 551 steps, but is well worth the effort. You’ll find yourself perched high up with a dazzling view of the square and North Rome, including the Prati, Spagna, and Colonna districts. Truly one of Rome’s most stunning views. For more on travelling through Europe, check out the SimCorner blog.
